The history of Golf

Significant events in Golf History:

Have you ever thought how old is your favorite game? Golf is probably older than a town you live in. The first recorded game of golf takes place in 1457, so it's a long time ago. Evidence suggests that the game was played in the town of St.Andrews in Scotland. The next big event in golf history is dated to 1659 when in Albany(New York) golf was banned and found malicious for the city (probably too many broken windows). You might ask when was the first time golf rules were formed and shaped. It was probably in 1744 when the Gentleman Golfers of Leith established first set of golf rules.

The rest of significant dates in golf history are as follows:
1764 - The Royal and Ancient Golf Club at St. Andrews expanded their course to 18 holes, which is the standard nowadays
1868 - The first ever recorded hole-in-one was made by Tom Morris at the Open Championship in Prestwick, Scotland
1900 - Golf first became an Olympic sport at the Paris Summer Olympics. Very interesting fact from that time is Margaret Ives Abbot story. She played in and won golf competition in October in Paris without knowing that the tournament was part of the Olympics. She died in 1955 in unawareness that she had become America's first ever female Olympic champion.
